Sounds, Noise, and Hearing App for Children

Sound, Noise, and Hearing

An interactive educational app for preschoolers, teaching them through fun animations, interactives, voice-overs and text what makes a healthy hearing system.

What is Noise?

Noise is any unwanted or disturbing sound, while sounds often surround us,  noises can annoy and even cause adverse health effects. Teaching children to identify the difference between sounds and noises, can help them learn when and how they can protect their ears.

This app teaches children the importance of a healthy hearing system, the basics of how our hearing works, the difference between sound and noises.  What unpleasant noises and pleasant sounds are and how important it is to have a healthy hearing system.

Though interactive animations, virtual reality explanation of sounds, and explainer videos, children can discover the who, what, where, when and whys of hearing.

Fun Learning Activities for Kids

What is W5Go?

Our goal is to create an extensive collection of immersive educational applications that are available to everyone. Throughout the applications, we aim to help children learn English, by teaching 20+ words in every application. The best way to learn a language is through immersion, we introduce English through voice-over, graphics, and text.   All of our applications are free to download, free from advertisements, no internet required and do not have any in-app purchases.

All of our episodes are geared towards children aged 4-12. With bright colors and graphics, we want children to learn English and simples concepts such as proper hygiene, through a fun interactive environment. We want to encourage children to use their imagination, explore and have fun while learning!

We believe that any topic can be taught to a child, by simply breaking it down into the five W’s (Who, What, Where, When and Why).  We want to encourage children to always ask the five W’s. When they question how things work and ask “why not” or “what if” they are continually learning and embracing creativity. In all of our episodes, we go through the five W’s and let the child guess what the answers could be before explaining.

Why AR/ VR Technology?

Dialogues_Icon

W5Go focuses on creating virtual environments for children to learn, explore and use their imagination in the safety of their own home.  With so many advancements in technology is it essential for children to have an even balance of traditional learning and new mobile learning.

Our applications are VR (Virtual Reality), and AR (Augmented Reality) enabled. Since this technology is becoming such a large part of everyday life, experiencing this technology from a young age is very beneficial, and our applications are meant to complement a child’s traditional education. They feature augmented and virtual reality scenes that are fun, interactive and safe for children. They are based on anchored points and do not require a headset. Which means your child will not have to move around to experience it and will have full visibility at all times.

What advantages does W5GO™ offer?

Resourcefulness – it is a properly researched selection of essential information on important topics for the upbringing of a child

Availability – the information and learning materials are readily available to the child on demand with the use of a Smartphone

Evolution – W5Go Project subscribes to the Wiki notion for collaborative development. Teachers and specialists in child education are invited to give us feedback and to contribute to the development of W5Go Project.

Currently, we have 14 applications available across several platforms. All are free to download, free from advertisements, no internet required and have no in-app purchases. Our vision is to create 100 episodes “Chapters” of W5Go so that children everywhere have the chance to learn English and experience AR/VR technology.

Have suggestions for future episodes, or would like to contribute to this good cause? Feel free to contact us at w5go.official@gmail.com

Eat a Rainbow! Healthy Eating for Children

There is a reason why your mom always told you to eat your vegetables! The fruits and vegetables food group provide many of the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function properly. Fruits and veggies come in a variety of colors, each colour has its own unique vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and natural plant chemicals that give them their distinct colours.

You can judge the number of nutrients on your plate just by looking at the colours. Making food that is very colourfull not only makes it more appealing for children but also more nutritional.

Red fruits and vegetables like strawberries and red peppers are coloured by a natural pigment called lycopene which is a strong antioxidant that can help reduce the risk of cancer and help to prevent heart disease.

Blue & Purple

Anthocyanin is what gives fruits and veggies their blue or purple colors. Delicious fruits and vegetables like eggplants, blueberries, and blackberries.  Anthocyanin has antioxidant properties that protect cells from damage and can help reduce the risk of cancer, stroke and heart disease.

Rich in vitamin C and carotenoids which give this group their vibrant colors. A well-known carotenoid called beta-carotene is found in sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and carrots. It’s converted to vitamin A, which helps maintain healthy cell development and healthy eyes.

Green

Greens are one of the healthiest foods we can eat. Green veggies contain a range of plant chemicals that are rich in lutein, isothiocyanates, isoflavones, and vitamin K – which is essential for blood and bone health. Leafy greens such as spinach and broccoli are excellent sources of folate a nutrient especially important for pregnant women to consume to help prevent congenital disabilities.

How to Pick a Children’s Educational App

With all the advancements in technology, it only seems natural to slowly introduce your child to electronics. The best way to ease a child into learning technology would be by giving them educational apps to play. Not only do they experience new technology but they also inherit many more educational benefits.

Four Tips for choosing Children’s Educational apps!

KidsPlayingW5go.pngA good mix of education and entertainment!

When children are interested in something, they become excited about learning. Find an app that engages your child and encourages them to push further and incite excitement in education. Find apps with a variety of learning experiences like art, maths or sciences. Discovering something new and having many different ways of learning is a great asset in an app to ensure a child doesn’t become bored. App series often have the same set of characters in each app, but new gameplay and lessons available. Series are a great way for children to connect, learn and grow with characters like Dora, or Clifford.

Join the fun!

It is proven that children learn more when their parents partake in their education. This starts with selecting an app for your child. Many of your children’s favorite characters have been made into educational apps, so that’s a great place to start!

Portrait of beautiful mother with her daughters listening to music at home.

Play along with them, when first purchasing the app run through the app with them. This not only lets you review the app, ensuring they are learning at their level and content you would approve of, but also squeezes in some good quality family time

Take turns with who gets to control the screen and select the next level. Children look up to you and if they see you having fun learning they are likely to mimic you!

Read reviews and stick to the age range

Is the app right for your child and what they can do? Not all 4-year-olds are created equal, so different apps will appeal to different children at different times.

Ask yourself, is this a skill or storyline my child is capable of following right now?

Touch screen technology is a significant advancement in technology for young children – it’s easy and intuitive for kids to navigate.  For pre-readers, make sure there are audio cues and not just words on a screen.

Talk to other parents about the apps their children enjoy, and why.  Ask them if you can test their app before you buy it for your child.

Review ratings and reviews – by other parents, and on sites like Common Sense Media – and look at the apps that have received Parent’s Choice awards.

Sort out the marketer’s

Many apps labeled “lite” or “free” often try and make their money through other sources such as annoying ads, virtual items, virtual currency or links to other app downloads. This can become very frustrating to the child who wants to play and the parent being harassed to pay. When buying an app look at the store listing, they will usually say in-app purchases or ads. It is recommended you play through the app once to see what these purchase are and if the ads are age appropriate. Some children’s “free” games are designed as previews and later require a subscription to gain further content.

So far our episodes, blog posts, youtube videos and social media have targeted five of the seventeen sustainable development goals.

Quality Education

E_SDG goals_icons-individual-rgb-04

We believe everyone deserves the right to a quality education no matter their circumstances. W5Go’s mobile episodes and videos are created for the audience of children aged 3-7. They are easy enough for a child to follow on their own without parental guidance.

We thoroughly research all of our applications to create fun educational content for children to learn and explore. Within every app, we choose a topic and ask the children the W5 to encourage them to think and question what they are seeing. We then ask them to dig deeper by asking questions like “What if?” and “Why not?” W5Go believes you can always push boundaries and learn more. By asking “What if?” and “Why not” it opens doors to your imagination which intern sparks innovation. Each episode teaches 20+ English words through voice-overs, text and animations for fun interactive learning.

Screen Shot 2018-03-22 at 12.01.02 PM

Most of our applications have virtual and augmented reality experiences. Due to the rapid growth of technology, we want to gradually introduce children to modern technology. We use smartphones to portray these experiences, no fancy headsets required, just a smartphone with a gyroscope and a back-camera. Also, for young children to use technology, not using a headset is much safer as there are still aware of the environment around them. W5Go believes children from all walks of life should be able to experience the newest technology.

All of our applications are free to downloads, free from ads, no in-app purchase and do not require wifi after the initial download. W5Go wants to make it as simple as possible to get the educational tools children need to succeed.

Gender Equality

E_SDG goals_icons-individual-rgb-05

A major concern in society today is gender equality. W5Go works to create episodes that are as gender neutral as possible. We want to teach children to respect one another no matter their gender, race or sexuality. At the moment we care carefully crafting an episode and song about bullying, in which we wish to teach children the importance of thinking before you speak or act.

Peace and Justice Strong Institutions

E_SDG goals_icons-individual-rgb-16

We try to include the peace and justice strong institutions goal in our apps by promoting children to have integrity. So they can understand what is right and wrong, and stand up for injustices when they encounter them. We believe by teaching these morals at a young age, children will grow up with a strong moral compass. Children are our future we must teach them what we know and let them learn from our mistakes. Some of these children will grow into powerful roles within companies and countries, having a strong sense of integrity is very beneficial.

Good Health and Well-Being

E_SDG goals_icons-individual-rgb-03

Across many of our episodes, we try to educate children on good health and well-being. In our Forest episode, we show how beneficial taking a walk through a forest can be for your mental health. We also focus on our blog to give tips on how to handle stress and  Our episode Dialogues shows a Grandma talking to her grandson about the importance of a healthy hygiene routine.

Zero Poverty

E_SDG goals_icons-individual-rgb-01

Knowledge is power! W5Go’s objective is to bring children to an even playing field when it comes to education when in or starting kindergarten or preschool. We want to make education available to everyone in any situation.

We believe education is the key to ending poverty. When people are educated they have more opportunities to advance in their lives and career. Everyone should have an equal chance to excel, no matter their environmental upbringing. W5Go wants to give children the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty. This is why all of our applications are free to download, have no in-app purchases, no advertisements and do not require wifi.

How do we do it?

We’re often asked,  “Where do we make money?” or “How do we afford to make these applications”
We are a social edification project headed and funded by EcoCarrier, a wholesale carrier voice service provision and managed services for retail telecom service providers. W5Go is a project created by and managed by Carl KS Teo, CEO & Founder of Ecocarrier.
